WHEREAS, Representative Karen Clark was first elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 1980 and decided not to seek re-election in 2018; and

WHEREAS, throughout her nineteen terms in the Minnesota legislature, Representative Clark remained an active and effective advocate for making a better life for blind Minnesotans, lending her support to numerous important issues; and

WHEREAS, Representative Clark led the way in getting Minnesota State Services for the blind (SSB) relocated from the Department of Public welfare into the department dealing with employment; and

WHEREAS, Representative Clark helped to create the rehabilitation council for the Blind before it was required federally, giving consumers our first official voice with SSB; and

WHEREAS, Representative Clark worked in the background to provide essential guidance in the creation of BLIND, Incorporated, our consumer-directed adjustment-to-blindness training center; and

WHEREAS, Representative Clark helped bring NFB-Newsline® to Minnesota, was active in our successful effort to strengthen statutory requirements for training for rehabilitation counselors, and assisted in countless other ways whenever needed; now therefore

BE IT RESOLVED by the National Federation of the Blind of Minnesota in convention assembled this _ day of November, 2018, in the city of St. Cloud, Minnesota, that this organization wholeheartedly commend Representative Karen Clark for her nearly four decades of outstanding service to all blind Minnesotans and thank her for her dedication to helping blind people become independent, productive members of society; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this organization wish Representative Clark well in her retirement from the Legislature and extend to her an open invitation to join the National Federation of the Blind of Minnesota at any time.
