WHEREAS, Metro Mobility is a shared public transportation service for certified riders in the Twin Cities region of Minnesota who are unable to use regular fixed-route buses due to a disability or health condition; and
WHEREAS, this service is on-demand and mandated under both the Americans with Disabilities Act and state law; and
WHEREAS, Metro Mobility acknowledges on their website that they serve as a vital lifeline, enabling people with diverse disabilities to participate fully in society by providing access to jobs, medical appointments, and social events; and
WHEREAS, Metro Mobility strives to foster equal opportunities, allowing disabled individuals to be active and contributing members of their communities; and
WHEREAS, Governor Waltz's "One Minnesota" initiative underscores the importance of granting disabled individuals equal access to all aspects of Minnesota, including leisure activities and employment opportunities; and
WHEREAS, curbside service is a program offered through Metro Mobility, in which a client can be dropped off at a chosen location for 15-20 minutes, then picked up again in the same vehicle;
WHEREAS, Metro Mobility recently ended the option for clients to use curbside service during rush hour and the hour leading up to rush hour; and
WHEREAS, curbside service has been crucial for enabling blind Minnesotans who use Metro Mobility to accomplish important life activities during the rush-hour timeframe, including banking, filling prescriptions at the pharmacy, and picking up and dropping off children from childcare on the way to or from work; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED by the National Federation of the Blind of Minnesota in Convention assembled this 5th day of November, 2023, in the city of Rochester, Minnesota, that this organization call upon Metro Mobility to reinstate its curbside service option during and leading up to the rush-hour timeframe.
