(Editor’s Note: On entering college, many students are going a lot more places on their own than they have ever gone before. Here Michell shares some tips for travel that is both fun and efficient.)

  •  When putting your cane down, lightly put your foot over it, so you know where it is at all times.
  • When looking for a sign, check the side the door handle is on.
  • Bus engines are on the back of the bus, so don’t go toward them when looking for the door.
  • Give yourself enough time to problem-solve when learning a new area.
  • When carrying a tray, make sure your arc is wide enough for your body and the tray. Check the table prior to putting down the tray.
