Whereas, accessible health information is vital for ensuring that all patients can make informed decisions regarding their own care; and

Whereas, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services emphasizes that all patients must have equal access to information and services as part of their commitment to accessibility; including compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA and that all documents must be available in accessible electronic formats; and

Whereas, several blind patients at the Mayo clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, have recently reported receiving educational materials from Mayo Clinic exclusively in a printed paper format, creating significant barriers for those who are blind; and

Whereas, section 1557 of the affordable Care Act requires that Mayo Clinic comply with WCAG guidelines; Now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the National Federation of the Blind of Minnesota in convention assembled this 3rd Day of November, 2024, in the city of Saint Paul, Minnesota, that this organization call upon the Mayo Clinic to make all educational materials provided to patients readily available in accessible electronic formats, following the department of Health and Human Services guidelines including WCAG 2.1 AA and PDF/UA.
